Georgetown: Jennie Parker Saussy, 90, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at home. Jennie was born in Sumter to the late Jennie Scarborough Parker and Thornwell Hay Parker. She attended the University of South Carolina, studied classical piano in Washington, DC, and later in life received a Master's in Interdisciplinary Studies from Coastal Carolina. Jennie was married to George Stone Saussy, Jr. for 62 years. They married in Ben Franklin's Christ Church, Philadelphia, where George was attending the Marine Officers Basic School. Jennie spent the war years working as a Laboratory Technician at Columbia and Conway Hospitals. Jennie was active with the Georgetown Co. Mental Health Association and the establishment of Hospice Care in the area, a cause that she benefited from herself during the past year. She especially wanted to be remembered for being the organist for the old church of All Saints, Waccamaw, Episcopal Church, which is where her remains will be interred with those of her husband, who died in 2005. She is survived by: her two sons, George Stone "Pete" Saussy, III of Pawleys Island and Thornwell Parker "Thorny" Saussy of Georgetown. In addition to her husband and parents, Jennie was predeceased by: one sister, Camilla Parker Finch; and two brothers, Theodore Parker and Eli Parker. Graveside memorial services will be held at eleven o'clock on Saturday morning, May 4, 2013, at All Saints Cemetery in Pawleys Island. Officiating will be the Rev. Matthew C. Schneider.
