Georgetown:
Joan Fluitsma Pieterse, 74, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Pieterse was born in Enschede, Netherlands on August 28, 1930, a daughter of the late Johannes Franciscus Fluitsma and Johanna Catherina Bevers Fluitsma. She grew up and graduated from R. K. Hengelo in the Netherlands. Mrs. Pieterse moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1956 and to Georgetown in 1965. She received her Masters degree from the University of South Carolina and taught middle school in Georgetown County schools until retirement. Mrs. Pieterse was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church.
Surviving are: four sons, Rudolph F. Pieterse and his wife Lorraine of Boston, Mass., Winfred A. Pieterse and his wife Jean, and Franklin R. Pieterse and his wife Kristi, both of Georgetown, and Robert B. Pieterse and his wife Dianne of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Judith Ann Yandle of Murrells Inlet and Dorothy Sue Pieterse of Georgetown; two brothers, Henk J. Fluitsma of Enschede, Netherlands and Ben A. Fluitsma of St. Augustine, Fla.; a sister, Catherina J. Brandenburg of Enschede, Netherlands; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
Mrs. Pieterse was predeceased by her husband, John Lambert Pieterse and a grandson, Robert Aaron Pieterse.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at three o'clock in St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald J. Farrell.
A Rosary service will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at five thirty o'clock at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home followed by visitation from six until eight o'clock.
