Murrells Inlet:
Joel Brian Wood, 52, died Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at his residence.
Mr. Wood was born in Bellefonte, PA on March 27, 1966. He grew up in Georgetown, attended grade school at the First Baptist School, and graduated Winyah High School, and received an associate degree from Penn State University. Mr. Wood lived in Murrells Inlet for many years and loved fishing. He enjoyed tournament fishing and fished on the Professional King Mackerel Tour. Joel loved animals including bird dogs and hunting with his father. His grandfather taught him to love deer hunting and every year he went back to the family farm in Churchville, NY to hunt. He loved cooking and won the Silver Spoon Award in Murrells Inlet for several of his entrees. Joel was a very personable person and was liked by everyone he met.
Surviving are: his father, Gene Wayne Wood of Seneca, SC; and his mother, Grace Sharon Foltman Wood of Roanoke, VA; a brother, David Andrew Wood (Katherine) of Hilo, HI; a step-mother, Loretta Wood of Seneca; a step-brother, Tim Channel (Margaret) of Simpsonville; a step-sister, Robyn Channel of Bedford, VA; two nephews, Riley and Hunter Wood; and two nieces, Madison and Zoe Channel.
Memorial Services will be Sunday afternoon, November 18, 2018, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home at two o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford.
The family will receive friend's immediately following the service.
