Georgetown:
John K. "J. K." Godwin, Jr., 85, died Monday, January 10, 2005, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Godwin was born in Greeleyville on February 7, 1919, a son of the late John Kilgo Godwin and Aline Clemons Godwin. He graduated from high school in Columbia. Mr. Godwin was an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter and retired from International Paper Co. after forty years service. He was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and the Quarter Century Club and the Pine Tree Club at the paper mill.
Mr. Godwin was predeceased by: two wives, Veronica Robinson Godwin and Hallene Miles Godwin.
Surviving are: his wife, Eloise Watts Godwin of Georgetown; a son, John K. Godwin, III and his wife Judy of Georgetown; a daughter, Diane G. Beason of Georgetown; a sister, Margaret G. Dunnagan and her husband Woodrow of Hickory, N. C.; two granddaughters, Melissa Buffington and her husband Robert of Columbia, and Caroline Kilgo Godwin of Georgetown; three great-grandchildren, John Godwin Buffington, Josie Elizabeth Taylor Buffington, and Robert Walton Buffington, Jr., all of Columbia.
Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Wednesday morning, January 12, 2005, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill. Entombment will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
