Georgetown:
John Harmon Grimes, 82, widower of Brenda Barton Grimes, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mr. Grimes was born on January 17, 1930 in Greenville, Miss., a son of the late Cecil Claymon Grimes, Sr. and Sadie Ehlers Grimes. He lived in Columbia and Marion prior to moving to Georgetown, where he was the former owner of Grimes Rug Shop. Mr. Grimes was a member of Battery White Camp # 1568, Sons of Confederate Veterans and Ducks Unlimited. He was an active participant in the Francis Asbury church school class and a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are: two daughters, Cathy Frye (John) of Wilmington, N.C. and Melanie DaVega (Mike) of Columbia; a step-son, Ryan B. Brown (Michelle) of Columbia; a step-daughter, Ali De La Cruz (J.C.) of Columbia; a brother, Claymon Grimes, Jr. of Georgetown; a niece, Happy Wilcox of Georgetown; two nephews, Bubba Grimes and Jack Grimes, both of Georgetown; and five grandchildren, Mary Caitlin Smith, Caroline Smith, William Smith, V, Jefferson DeVega, and Henry DeVega.
Memorial services will be held at two o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, May 1, 2012, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. G. Edward Usher. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center of the church.
