Pawleys Island:
John Thomas Humphries, 91, widower of Margie Cain Humphries, died Saturday, July 24, 2021, at MUSC Medical Center in Charleston.
Mr. Humphries was born September 8, 1929, in Gaffney, SC, a son of the late James Madison Humphries and Anna Fagg Humphries.
He graduated from Gaffney High School in 1945, from Furman University with a Bachelor Arts degree in 1949 and obtained his law degree from Emory University School of Law with a LLB Degree in 1959. Mr. Humphries served in the US Army in the Counter Intelligence Corp in Germany from 1949 – 1954. He was employed at Trust Company of Georgia from 1949 as Head of Factoring until retiring in 1993. John was a strong supporter of the Furman Paladins, Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons. Mr. Humphries was a member of Ponce de Leon Baptist Church of Atlanta, GA until moving to Pawleys Island and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Georgetown. He was also, a member of the Lide Williams Sunday School Class. His greatest love was for his family and friends and the dedication to his church.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Humphries is predeceased by, a son, John Cain Humphries; a brother, James F. Humphries and a nephew, Theodore Camp Bracewell.
Surviving are: a sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Don Bracewell of Decatur, GA; a daughter-in-law Susan Willis Humphries of Marietta, GA; a granddaughter, Jennifer Cain Humphries of Woodstock, GA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dearest friends John and Betty Brannan of Pawleys Island.
Funeral Services will be one o'clock Thursday, July 29, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Georgetown. Officiating will be the Rev. Keith Wall. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends prior to the service in the Church Parlor on Thursday, July 29th from twelve until one o'clock.
