Georgetown:
John P. LaBruce, Jr., 71, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at his residence.
Mr. LaBruce was born in Florence on May 26, 1944, a son of the late John Percival LaBruce and Theodora Burden King LaBruce. He graduated from Winyah High School and attended several colleges. Mr. LaBruce served in the U. S. Army in Viet Nam. He was employed by Georgetown County as a tax assessor for many years until retirement.
Mr. LaBruce was a life time Episcopalian and served on the Vestry and was a Jr. Warden at Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. He attended Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church. Mr. LaBruce was respected for his knowledge of Georgetown County History, the people, and culture and was a board member of the Georgetown Historical Society and remained actively involved throughout is life. His family was a part of Georgetown since Colonial days. Mr. LaBruce served on the Architectural Review Board and was a board member of Friends of the Kaminski House.
Surviving are: two sisters, Alice L. Cromartie (Jimmy) of Georgetown and Margaret L. James of Lexington; a niece, Kate C. Varn (Eric); two nephews, Brad Cromartie (Lori) and Mitch James (Nikki); and a son by choice, Hunter Lawrimore.
Memorial services will be two-thirty o'clock, Sunday afternoon, December 6, 2015, at the graveside in Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Churchyard. Inurnment will follow in the cemetery.

The family received friends Sunday afternoon, October 25, 2015, from four until six o'clock at Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Service.
