John F. McBride

John McBride, 80, a longtime resident of Georgetown, SC and formerly of Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 4, 2026. John was born on May 10, 1946, in Bremerton, WA, the son of John V. McBride and Evelyn (Laprath) McBride. He was the beloved husband of over 56 years to Carolyn (Charland) McBride.

John grew up in the small town of Castle Rock, WA, where he developed his life-long hobby of fishing on the Cowlitz River. John graduated from Washington State University in Pullman, WA with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Following his graduation, John moved across the country to the Rochester suburb of Greece, NY on the southern shore of Lake Ontario for a position with the Eastman Kodak Company where he worked (and fished) for over 30 years, including a 3-year relocation across Lake Ontario to Toronto, Canada.

John will always be known as a great husband, father, grandfather, friend, and faithful servant. Following his retirement and subsequent move to Georgetown, SC, he focused on spending time with his friends and family and was always ready to go fishing when called upon. John spent time volunteering for his community and his church and was also very active with Water Mission in their annual walk for water.

John will be best remembered for his love of family, fishing, and keeping busy with all kinds of hobbies and pet projects over the years. John loved spending time with his family, whether it was taking a family vacation to Disney World or the beach, attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren, or simply catching up on what everyone is up to. And any time the water was flat, and John could find a partner, it was a good time to go fishing. As for hobbies, John had plenty over the years, including deer hunting, stamp collecting, coin collecting, racing remote control cars, building and flying model airplanes, and cooking.

And the one he loved most is his wife, Carolyn. They shared a wonderful life together—meeting at Washington State University, moving across the country to Rochester, NY to start careers and build a family, enjoying 20+ years of retirement in Georgetown, South Carolina, seeing their children and grandchildren grow up, spending time with old friends and making new ones, and sharing life experiences.

In addition to Carolyn, John is survived by his children; Brenda Martin and her husband, Joe of Georgetown, SC and Robert McBride and his wife, Sabrina, of McLean, VA; his four grandchildren, Ben, Matt, Mikalya, and Luke; and his brother, Richard “Mac” McBride of Camus, WA.

He was predeceased by his sister, Mattie Brockmoller. He also leaves many loved nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 7, 2026, in the Georgetown Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow.
