Andrews:
John Elwyn Morris, Sr., 88, died Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Medical University of SC Hospital in Charleston.
Mr. Morris was born in Andrews on September 27, 1926, a son of the late John Oscar Morris and Chettie Pinner Morris. He grew up in Andrews and graduated from Andrews High School. Mr. Morris served in the Navy in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired after 40 years employment with International Paper Co. in Georgetown.
Mr. Morris was a member of First Baptist Church of Andrews. He was a Mason and member of Harper's Lodge in Andrews and a Shriner and member of Omar Shrine Temple in Charleston. Mr. Morris was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Morris was predeceased by: two wives, Thelma Ruth Davidson Morris and Jane Davis Simons Morris; a son, Alan Davidson Morris; two brothers, Thomas O. "Tom" Morris and Oscar Theron Morris; and a sister, Miriam Thompson.
Surviving are: three sons, John E. Morris, Jr. (Pansy), Robert W. Morris, and Theron Randall Morris (Judy), all of Andrews; a daughter-in-law, Carol Morris of Florence; nine grandchildren; Bridget Morris Blakeley, Leah Morris Solomons, John Elwyn Morris, III, Alan Davidson Morris, II, Chestley Wayne Morris, Theron Randall Morris, Jr., Mindy Morris, Savannah Morris, and Tonya Oiler; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Loyd C. Morris (Joan) of Andrews; and three sisters, Mavis Davidson (Arnold) of Jacksonville, FL, Honor Pierce of Columbia, and Wanda Cox McCants of Andrews.
Funeral services will be twelve o'clock noon Monday, April 13, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Andrews. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul Sapp. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the Church Parlor from eleven until twelve.
