Andrews:
John Henning Pitts, 73, died Monday, September 28, 2009, in the Medical University of S. C. Hospital in Charleston.
Mr. Pitts was born in Andrews on September 24, 1936, a son of the late Randolph Rivals Pitts and Amelia Higbe Pitts. He grew up in Andrews and was a graduate of Andrews High School. Mr. Pitts served in the U.S. Air Force as an air traffic controller. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for forty years including as the Andrews Postmaster for twenty years. Mr. Pitts retired in December 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Andrews. Mr. Pitts served his church as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Sunday School Director.
Surviving are: his wife, Windola Swails Pitts of Andrews; a son John H. (Ann) Pitts, Jr. of Andrews; a daughter, Joyce P. (Milton) Anderson of Timmonsville; a sister-in-law, Mary Pitts of Marion; a niece, Sharon Nobles of Lexington; a special friend, Rev. Bruce Moore of Des Plaines, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Matthew Owens, Kody Pitts, and Kayla Pitts.
Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Wednesday morning, September 30, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Andrews. Officiating will be The Rev. Donald P. Sapp. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, Tuesday evening, September 29, 2009 from six until eight.
