Pawleys Island:
John George Szabo, 93, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet.
Mr. Szabo was born in Dante, Va. on August 11, 1919, a son of the late Joseph Szabo and Rosalia Toth Szabo. He grew up in West Virginia, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young man, and attended Tri-State College in Agola, Ind. Mr. Szabo was a retired tool and die maker and moved to Pawleys Island from Chicago in 1985. He was a founding member of Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church, where he served as an usher.
Surviving are: his wife, Lillian Mavrin Szabo of Pawleys Island; and a sister, Ethel Kiemnec of Ohio. In addition to his parents, Mr. Szabo was predeceased by: two brothers, Julius and Joseph Szabo; and five sisters, Margaret Buza, Ida Dimeff, Elizabeth Malagrida, Mary Lipscomb, and Theresa Toth.
A Funeral Mass will be held at eleven o'clock on Thursday morning, February 7, 2013, at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Patrick J. Stenson. A repast will follow the service.
