Pawleys Island: John Shepherd Thompson, Jr. 72, husband of Gail Overton Thompson, died Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Tidelands Waccamaw Hospital in Murrells Inlet. Mr. Thompson was born in Florence on February 27, 1944, a son of the late John Shepherd Thompson and Dorothy Evans Grimball Thompson. Mr. Thompson served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired as Vice President of Sales for New South Forest Industries. Mr. Thompson was a member of All Saints Church. Mr. Thompson was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the Pawleys Creek and enjoyed sharing his experiences with others, young and old. We are all the richer for it. Surviving in addition to his wife of Pawleys Island; are two daughters; Katherine Gail Thompson and Dorothy Louise Thompson both of Murrells Inlet; two sisters, Dorothy Anne Thompson of Lebanon, TN and Elizabeth "Bet" Thompson Gettys (Jim) of Columbia; a sister-n-law, Deborah Overton Herndon of Pawleys Island and a number of loving nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at four o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, July 13, 2016, at All Saints Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Grafe, The Rev. Clay Millener, and the Rev. Thomas Brown. Burial will follow in the Prince George Winyah Episcopal Churchyard in Georgetown.
