Greenville John B. Wood, Sr., widower of Alyce Valaer Wood of Greenville, SC and Pawleys Island, SC, died Saturday, May 10, 2014. Born in Winston-Salem, NC, he was a son of the late Charles Edward and Sarah Goodwin Wood. John was a graduate of Guilford College, served in the United States Navy and a member of Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his son, John Beale Wood, Jr.; daughter, Martha Wood McKissick and her husband, Ellison Smyth McKissick, III; grandchildren, John Beale Wood, III, William Harrison Wood, Elizabeth Blair Wood, all of Greenville, Ellison Smyth McKissick, IV of Liberty, SC, Hollis Valaer McKissick of Washington, D.C. and Caroline Parker McKissick of Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends at the home of Martha and Smyth McKissick from 4:00pm until 6:00pm on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 in All Saints Parish, Waccamaw Cemetery, Pawleys Island, SC. The family is very grateful to the staff and his many friends at Emeritus of Greenville, who took great care of him, in his time of need.
