Obituary

Georgetown: Joie Lindsay Holland, 78, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Tidelands Community Hospice House. Mr. Holland was born in Panama City, Fla. on January 3, 1935, a son of the late Jack R. Holland and Ellen Bunn Holland. He moved with his family to Georgetown in 1949. Mr. Holland graduated from Winyah High School in 1952, where, as a member of the Winyah High Band, he became interested in music. He attended the University of South Carolina, where he followed his love of music and was a member of the Carolina Band. Mr. Holland was also a member of the AFROTC Band and later enjoyed being a member of several musical groups. He was employed with International Paper Company for 41 years. Mr. Holland was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and the Francis Asbury Sunday School class and was active in many church activities. He cherished his family and friends, and loved golf, his golf buddies, the Gamecocks, snow skiing, and travelling. Surviving are: his wife of 57 years, Jean Zimmerman Holland of Georgetown; a beloved daughter, Debbie Lawrimore (Stan) of Irmo and their son, Charles Andrew Lawrimore of Irmo; a beloved son, Michael Lindsay Holland of Columbia and his son Matthew Stuart Holland (Mary Caroline) of Charleston; a brother, Charles Harold Holland of Spartanburg; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Holland was predeceased by: a sister, Joyce Holland Griffin; and two brothers, James Conrad Holland and Michael Wayne Holland. Funeral services will be held at two o'clock on Friday afternoon, March 1, 2013, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday at the Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church Family Life Center from one until two o'clock.
