Georgetown:
Joseph H. Easley, Jr., 76, died Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mr. Easley was born in Rock Hill on August 13, 1932, the son of the late Joseph H. and Harriet P. Easley. He was a 1954 graduate of Clemson University with a degree in Animal Husbandry. Mr. Easley was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force and was promoted to Captain as a fighter pilot in the early days of the Cold War.
Upon returning to the US in 1960, he began a career in the agricultural industry, eventually rising to the position of vice-president of marketing with Royster Fertilizer Company.
Mr. Easley retired and moved to Georgetown in 1983, where he became involved in numerous leadership positions in local government and community affairs as well as Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. He was Chairman of the Pawley's Island Planning Commission and was active in long term leadership of several committees of the DeBordieu Property Owners' Association. Mr. Easley was a former President of the Georgetown Hospice Board and a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, the Winyah Indigo Society and the Diocesan Council of the Diocese of SC.
Surviving are: his wife, Mary Cordes Lucas Easley of Georgetown; a son, Joseph H. Easley, III of Summerville; two daughters, Mary G. Holland of Virginia Beach, Va. and Harriet Walker of Charleston; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
Memorial services will be Thursday morning, October 23, 2008, at eleven o'clock in Prince George, Winyah Episcopal Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul C. Fuener. Inurnment will follow in the churchyard.
A reception will follow in the Parish Hall immediately following the committal service.
