Judge Donald Gregor Purple, 77, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Judge Purple was born in Corning, N.Y. on March 9, 1934, a son of the late Dr. Donald Gleason Purple and Bess Schmidlin Purple. He grew up in Corning and graduated from Corning Free Academy. After graduating from Dartmouth College, Judge Purple received his law degree from Cornell Law School. He married Shirley Eleanor Kretschmann in February of 1962.
Judge Purple started his career as an attorney, and then served as First and then Second Assistant District Attorney and as District Attorney in Corning. Gov. Nelson Rockefeller later appointed him to County Court of the State of N.Y., as Supreme Court Justice in the Seventh Judicial District. After retiring on April 30, 1998, he and his wife moved to Georgetown. Judge Purple was a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife of Georgetown, survivors include: two sons, D. Gregor Purple of Georgetown and Collin Ivan Purple of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Beverly Purple of Roswell, Ga. and Courtney Ann Muldbakken (Greg) of Temecula, Calif.; a sister, Barbara Sue LaViers (Harry) of Lexington, Ky.; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services at Georgetown Presbyterian Church will be three o'clock Friday, June 10, 2011.
