Judith "Judy" Smoak Newton, 79, wife of John Newton passed away peacefully Friday, March 31, 2023, at her home with her family by her side.
Mrs. Newton was born in Williamsburg County on January 1, 1944, a daughter of the late Wilber Smoak and Lucille Connelly Smoak.
Mrs. Newton graduated from Andrews High School in 1962. Judy was a faithful member of Gourdines Chapel, where she taught Sunday School for over fifty years. Mrs. Newton also served as the church secretary and treasurer for many years. Judy was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, working in her garden and cooking for her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newton was predeceased by: a brother, Allan Smoak of Georgetown.
Surviving are: her husband John of Andrews, a son, Andy Newton (Lisa) of Andrews; a daughter, Lindsay Stover (Michael) of Chapin; four grandchildren, Casey Watt (Bruce) Courtney Kreisle (Wally), James Stover, and Jude Stover; three great-grandchildren, Connor Watt, Taylor Watt, and Penny Kreisle; five sister, Gail Dick (Odie) of Maggie Valley, NC, Kay Gibson of Murrells Inlet, Annette Flanagan (Tony) of Lancaster, SC, Sarah Shuford (Leslie) of Clyde, NC and Deane Smoak of Summer Shade, KY.
Funeral Services will be eleven o'clock Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Gourdine's Chapel, officiating will be the Rev. Randy Gamble. Burial will follow in the Churchyard.
The family will receive friends in the Church Sanctuary Tuesday evening April 4, 2023, from six until eight o'clock PM
