Pawleys Island: Jurmie "Newt" Eugene Watkins, 90, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown. Mr. Watkins was born in Ashwood on April 26, 1922, a son of the late George Washington Watkins and Nannie Baker Watkins. He grew up in Lee County, moved to Georgetown in 1940, and to Pawleys Island in 1948. Mr. Watkins was a retired employee of International Paper Co. and a communicant of Christ the King, Waccamaw, Episcopal Church. Surviving are: his wife of 63 years, Lorena "Tootsie" Altman Watkins of Pawleys Island; two sons, Bucky Watkins (Angie) of Georgetown and Glenn "Humdinger" Williamson (Liz) of Pawleys Island; a daughter, Lynn W. Amrozowicz (Jerry) of Pawleys Island; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Nan W. Lattin of Pawleys Island; and two half-sisters, Tootsie W. Witherspoon of Sumter and Ella Mae W. Bradham of Oswego. Memorial services will be held at eleven o'clock on Friday morning, August 17, 2012, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Christopher Royer.
