Georgetown:
Mary Katherine Lang Matthews, 73, died Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Matthews was born in Summerville on August 11, 1933, the daughter of the late Joseph Lee and Daisy Grooms Lang. She was reared by her uncle and aunt, the late Willie Grooms, Sr. and Eva Howard Grooms. Mrs. Matthews was a graduate of Winyah High School and attended Columbia Business College. She worked as a childcare provider and was a member of Ringel Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Matthews was the widow of Leavy Harold Matthews.
Surviving are: two daughters, Diane Cox and her husband J. C. of Georgetown and Teresa Savard and her husband Rusty of Shasta Lake, Calif.; a brother, Willie Grooms, Jr. of Georgetown; three sisters, Myrtle Chesser of Ravenel, Mattie Canady of Adams Run, and Rosalie Harmon of Summerville; three grandchildren, Christopher Savard, Daniel Cox, and Courtney Cox; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be one o'clock Saturday afternoon, December 9, 2006, at Ringel Heights Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Chris Giles. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
