Georgetown: Kathryn Phillips Avant, 76, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Avant was born in Georgetown on November 15, 1928, a daughter of the late Homer Watts Phillips and Marie Meteer Phillips Stecher. She lived most of her life in Georgetown and was a graduate of Winyah High School. Mrs. Avant retired after thirty-two years employment with International Paper Company. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the widow of Robert "Bobby" E. Avant. Surviving are: a daughter Kathryn "Kathy" A. Peacock and her husband Wyndell D. Peacock of Georgetown; a granddaughter, Kathryn Ashley P. Snead of Charleston; and a grandson, Kyle David Peacock of Clemson. Funeral services will be four o'clock Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2005 at the graveside in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be the Rev. Hiram L. McElrath.
