Georgetown:
Kathryn Olivia Mercer Coutu, 91, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mrs. Coutu was born in Andrews on July 9, 1921, a daughter of the late Christopher Columbus Mercer and Sarah Catherine Porter Mercer. She grew up in the Suttons and Oak Grove sections of Andrews and graduated from Andrews High School. Mrs. Coutu was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Andrews and a long-time member of Wayne United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Curtis Bell Sunday School Class and the Mary Martha Circle of United Methodist Women. She retired from International Paper Co. – Woodlands Division. Mrs. Coutu was a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are: her husband of seventy years, Daniel H. Coutu of Georgetown; a son, Daniel P. Coutu (Tonda) of Salisbury, N.C.; a daughter, Kathy C. Hemingway (Sel) of Andrews; six grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Coutu was predeceased by: four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be at ten o'clock on Friday morning, August 31, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Andrews. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ben Gafford. Burial will follow in Oak Grove United Methodist Churchyard.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, August 30, 2012, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from six until eight o'clock.
