Obituary

Mrs. Kay Frances Johnson, age 93, of Gautier, MS., passed away quietly early Sunday morning, February 15, 2026, at her residence in River Chase Village. She was born November 11, 1932, in Georgetown, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Buck and Kate Moore.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Robert Johnson; a daughter, Rafella Johnson; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Goldie Moore.

She graduated from Winyah High School and was a long-time member of Friendfield Presbyterian Church as well as a dedicated mother who supported her family and husband when traveling for the U.S. Air Force to Japan, Okinawa, and various bases in the United States. In addition, she was a Telephone Operator and Communications Specialist Manager in the U.S. Department of the Navy for 24 years. Those who knew her will remember Kay as a person of wit and charm, who made friends easily, smiled often, and had fierce loyalty to her family.

She is survived by four sons, Samuel Bourne (Brenda), Stan Johnson, Rick Johnson (Debbie), and Keith Bourne; two sisters, Billie Hemstrought (David), Gloria Davis (Vance); multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Downtown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
