Obituary

Conway

Born on March 27, 1965, in Florence, South Carolina, Kenny was the son of the late Kenneth Alexander Smith and Francine Ann (Miles) Smith Turner. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Preston Love, and his beloved aunt and uncle, Ronald and Doris Richardson.

Kenny was a hard worker who took great pride in his craft. A skilled woodworker, he could most often be found in his shed creating something new. He loved sitting outside by the fire with the radio playing—whether it was a race, a football game, or southern rock. As a talented construction worker, Kenny could do it all: painting, tile, roofing, and carpet. Riding in the car with him was like taking a guided tour of the many homes he helped build. He would often point out his work, saying, "I put the floor in that house," or, "You should have seen what that place looked like before I redid it." He loved a good construction challenge.

More recently, Kenny found peace on Powderhorn Mountain, where he used his craftsmanship to breathe new life into old cabins. He had a gift for seeing potential in a piece of wood and repurposing it into something beautiful. Kenny was not one to stay indoors—he was always finding something to do outside, where he felt most at home. Above all, he cherished spending time with his grandsons, happily letting them be the boss in whatever adventures they shared.

Kenny is survived by his wife of 36 years, Misty Love Smith; his daughter, Ashley Smith Miller (Jamie) of Georgetown, SC; his son, Cody Smith of Denver, CO; and his grandsons, Brody and Harrison Miller. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Laurie and Dale Long of Deep Gap, NC, along with many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his lifelong friend, Joe Brown of Conway, SC.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home for their compassionate care during this difficult time.

A funeral service will be held at the Maryville Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with his cousin, Dale Richardson, officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
