Pawleys Island:
Larry Beatty Walker passed away on Friday, September 26th at Waccamaw Rehabilitation Hospital in Murrells Inlet. He was 63 years old. Larry had spent 6 and ½ weeks at Grand Strand Hospital with some health issues and was in Waccamaw Hospital getting rehabilitated to go home.
Larry is survived by his daughter Briana Walker of Waynesville, MO; sister Linda Walker-Smith (Len) of North Myrtle Beach; his very special friend Yvonne Guarrera of Pawleys Island; sister-in-law Susan W. Walker of Pawleys Island; his closest childhood friend and "brother" Billy Hall of Pawleys Island; and numerous nieces and nephews who were more like his children. Larry is predeceased by his parents Johnnie (Big Johnnie) L. Walker and Ann Altman Walker and big brother Johnnie Lee Walker.
Larry was born in Georgetown and as a child moved to Pawleys Island where he grew up swimming, surfing, fishing and crabbing in the ocean, creek and marshes. The salt air and pluff mud got in his blood and he was his happiest walking the south end and having his time with God. He said that was his church and where he felt closest to the Lord. He was an avid fisherman and Nascar enthusiast. A wonderful daddy, brother, uncle and one of the best friends anyone could have. Larry was an active member in the Elks Lodge and did a lot of the cooking when they had their fund raisers. He was a great chef! He was also an original member of the Pawleys Island Surf Club. He graduated from Winyah High School and attended Chowan Jr. College, where he studied Graphic Arts. However, he chose the home building and renovation business following in his dad's and brother's footsteps.
Memorial services will be held graveside Sat. Oct. 4th at 2:00pm at All Saints Episcopal Church. Rev. Frank Holsclaw will be presiding.
