Georgetown:
Surrounded by her family, Lauretta Brockinton Dean passed into the arms of her Savior on Monday morning, October 26, 2015.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2015, at Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church at two o'clock. Burial will be in Prince George cemetery immediately following the service. A reception will be held in the church parish hall so that friends may greet the family.
A lifelong resident of Georgetown, Lauretta was born April 1, 1922 to her parents, Bertha Emerson Brockinton and Belton O'Neal Brockinton. She was the widow of Eulis Harold Dean who died in 1999. Growing up, she attended Georgetown public schools and then went to Coker College in Hartsville. In 1943, after graduating from college, she enlisted in the United States Navy as a WAVE and worked as a laboratory technician in San Diego Hospital in California. She marched in the Victory Parade in New York City, an event she always remembered. After the war, she moved back to Georgetown and worked in the hospital in Conway, and there she met her future husband, "Pete Dean", whom she married in 1947. When the last of her four children entered elementary school, Lauretta began her teaching career which lasted twenty-six years. An avid gardener, reader, and animal lover, she also sang in the church choir, played tennis and golf, and loved being a docent for her church. She also enjoyed writing poems and using her artistic talent to sketch and paint. She leaves her children many happy memories of cooking wonderful meals, taking day trips to Pawley's Island, buying six bags of Jack's Chocolate Chip Cookies every week, and being the best nurse a child could ever have! Above all, she loved the Lord Jesus with all of her heart and was ready to join Him in Heaven.
Our family's heartfelt thanks go out to Morningside Assisted Living, Sweetgrass Court Memory Care, and Hospice of South Carolina Palliative Care for all of their Loving care and support during the final years of Mama's life.
Lauretta is survived by her four children, Linda D. Fraser (Robert) of Mt. Pleasant, Sharon B. Dean of Charleston, Deborah D. Plunkett (Paul) of Charleston, and David H. Dean (Renee) of Georgetown; seven grandchildren: Capt. Robert Porter Fraser, Benjamin Brockinton Fraser, Mary Lesesne Fraser, Christopher Paul Plunkett, Elizabeth Emerson Plunkett, Katherine Dean Plunkett, and Laura Elizabeth Dean.
