Andrews:
Laurie "Coleman" Smith, Sr., 75, died Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown.
Mr. Smith was born in Williamsburg Co. on August 10, 1938, a son of the late Richard Durham "Hammie" Smith and Myrtie Iva Powell Smith. He was self-employed in the timber industry, a certified equipment appraiser, and a merchant. Mr. Smith was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and a Williamsburg Co. Voter Registration Pole Manager. He attended Black River Original Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are: his wife, Wilma F. Smith of Andrews; three sons, Laurie C. Smith, Jr. (Jane), Ted C. Smith (Kim), and Kelby M. Smith (Brent), all of Andrews; two daughters, Janet M. Smith and Ginger I. Smith (Bobby Wilder), both of Andrews; a sister, Velder "Bootie" Smith of Georgetown; eight grandchildren, Christina S. Woolley (Bruce), Jessica R. Goodwin (Chris), Stephen C. Smith, Emily E. Smith, Dacie Smith, Abby J. Smith, Madison Smith, and Tori R. Smith; a great-grandchild, Blair T. Woolley; a special dog, Hickory; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by: three brothers, Hoyt L. Smith, Weldon D. Smith, and Everette M. Smith.
Graveside services will be held at eleven o'clock on Saturday morning, August 31, 2013, at Piney Forest Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Craig Tedder and the Rev. Daniel Cason.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, August 30, 2013, at the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from seven until nine o'clock.
