Lawrence Edward Gilchrist, 90, died Friday, October 13, 2017, at his residence, peacefully with his three daughters by his side.
Lawrence was born in Darlington, S.C. on July 10, 1927. He grew up there, graduated high school, and attended Furman University. He was one of the founding owners of Georgetown Mill Supplies, Inc. A member of Duncan United Methodist Church and the Shriners. Lawrence served in the United States Navy from 1945 - 1946, receiving a Victory-World War II medal.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Ouida Swann Gilchrist. Surviving are his three girls, Tangye Gilchrist Strickland (Michael) of Asheboro, N.C. , Hope Gilchrist Ward of Greenwood, S.C., Laura Gilchrist Marsh (Rod) of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren, Seth Strickland, Thomas Hildebrand, Trey Ward, Jake Strickland, and Lindsey Parker; two great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Eloise Mae; many special nieces and nephews.
Lawrence did not know a stranger and lived life to the fullest; a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, a devoted fan of the Clemson Tigers and the Atlanta Braves. He was committed to Georgetown Mill Supplies and the employees for over 40 years.
Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock on Tuesday morning, October 17, 2017, at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening, October 16, 2017, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from six until eight o' clock.
