Obituary

Salters: Lee Cannon Ballard, III, 83, husband of Anne Hughes Ballard, died Friday, October 2, 2020 at his residence. Mr. Ballard was born in Georgetown on September 24, 1937, a son of the late Lee Cannon Ballard, Jr. and Agnes Emerson Ballard. He grew up in the City of Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School and attended Clemson University. Lee served in the National Guard for eight years. Lee founded Ballard Iron in Georgetown and lived at Windsor Plantation, where he raised ducks. After retirement he moved to Captain's Choice Farm in Salters with the love of his life-Anne. Lee won the award for Conservationist of The Year by the Quail Unlimited. They raised quail, ducks, and farmed. With the love of wildlife, he spent his time taking care of the animals and the woods. In the last years, he and his wife made tupelo and poplar wooden bowls and trays. Lee was a member of the NRA, the Moose Lodge, and Duncan Memorial United Methodist5 Church in Georgetown with his wife Anne, where they raised their sons. In addition to his parents, Lee was predeceased by his only sibling, Anne Ballard Boyce. Surviving in addition to his wife of Salters are: two sons, David Glenn Ballard (Lisa) of Georgetown and Gerald Clay Ballard of Salters; two grandsons, Lee Cannon Ballard IV and Garrett Oneal Ballard; two nieces, Carol Anne Boyce Dutton and Cathy Boyce Hansen; an aunt, Winifred Anne Ballard Poit; and several cousins.
