Georgetown:
Lewis Joseph "Blookie" Schooler, 80, died Saturday, October 8, 2005, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Schooler was born in Georgetown on July 20, 1925, a son of the late Benjamin Harrison Schooler and Mary Emily Hemingway Schooler. He was reared by his uncle and aunt, the late Norton E. Watts and Janie Hemingway Watts. Mr. Schooler grew up in Georgetown and was a graduate of Winyah High School and the University of South Carolina. He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Schooler was an automobile salesman for fifty years. He was a former employee of West Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, Inc. and Westbrook Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, Inc. and retired from Coastal Chevrolet-Cadillac, Inc.
Mr. Schooler was a lifelong member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and an original member of the Ribbon Club of Georgetown. He was also an avid member of the Gamecock Club and a member the U.S.C. Alumni Association and the Winyah Indigo Society.
Mr. Schooler was predeceased by: his wife, Sammy Warriner Schooler; and a brother, Robert Schooler.
Surviving are: a daughter, Jane Schooler of Pawley's Island; a son, Joey Schooler and his wife Sarah of Charleston; three brothers, Alfred Schooler and his wife Lois of Georgetown, Charles Schooler and his wife Pat of Pawley's Island, and William Schooler and his wife Ruth of Atherton, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Frances McSwain of Lake Wateree; and two grandchildren, Josh Schooler and Caroline Schooler, both of Charleston.
Funeral services will be one o'clock Monday afternoon, October 10, 2005, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
