Georgetown:
Leyola Wendell Shokes, 79, wife of Jessie D. Shokes, died Monday, July 6, 2015, at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mrs. Shokes was born in Baltimore, Md. on November 4, 1935, a daughter of the late Frank Riley Wendell and Ethel Thomas Wendell. She grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School. Her Grandchildren would like to say she was a loving and caring Grandmother, who will always be treasured. Mrs. Shokes had a love for computer games and liked to watch movies. She had a very special friend, her dog, Tootsie.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of Georgetown, are; a son, Jeffery Shokes (Lisa) of Hanahan, three brothers, Riley F. Wendell (Barbara) and Larry D. Wendell, both of Georgetown, and Daniel A. L. Wendell of Murrells Inlet; two sisters, F. Katherine Plunkett (Doug) of Summerville and E. Lynn Smith (Gerald), of Hilton Head; a grandson, Jackson Shokes and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Shokes.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shokes was predeceased by a son, Wendell Jesse Shokes and a brother, F. Neal Wendell.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning, July 9, 2015, in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Benjamin Simmons.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from ten until eleven o'clock in the mausoleum chapel.
