Obituary

Lloyd Hinson Floyd, 87, known as “Hinson” to family and friends and “Buddy” to his grandchildren and closest family, passed away on August 8, 2026. He was born on August 20, 1938, and was raised in Turbeville, South Carolina, the youngest of 13 children born to Mahony W. Floyd and Edith M. Floyd, who were farmers.

Hinson lived a life marked by dedicated service to his country, his community, and his family. He proudly served for 35 years in the South Carolina Army National Guard, retiring with the distinguished rank of Command Sergeant Major (E9). He also enjoyed a long career in the telephone industry and retired from GTE in 1988.

A man of faith, Hinson was a member of First Baptist Church of Georgetown. He was also an avid golfer and a longtime member of Wedgefield Country Club, where he enjoyed many years on the course and the friendships that came with the game.

Above all, Hinson was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was an important part of his life, and he leaves them with many cherished memories of the years they shared together.

Hinson was preceded in death by his parents; his 12 siblings; and his wife of 49 years, LaVonne Tobias Floyd.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta McCutchen Floyd; his daughter, Sabra Yvette Kraus and her husband, Dru; his granddaughter, Chelsea Leigh Morgan; his grandson, Spencer Floyd Morgan and his wife, McKeithan; his great-grandson, Mitchell Jay Morgan; and many other loving family members.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday. August 13, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Georgetown with burial to follow at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors at the Maryville Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Hinson’s memory to the Prayer Garden Fund at First Baptist Church of Georgetown or The American Legion.
