Obituary

Georgetown: Dr. Lloyd "Benton" Williams, M.D., 89, died Sunday, December 6, 2015, at his residence. Dr. Williams was born February 18, 1926, a son of the late Archie and Leona Wilder Williams in the Choppee area of Georgetown County. He was raised in that area and educated at Union and Pleasant Hill High Schools, graduating in 1943. Dr. Williams was raised in the Rose Hill Baptist, became a believer, and joined the church at an early age. He was a lifelong member, except on occasions when he was away, and was always active in church work. Dr. Williams was raised on a farm until he was called to active duty in World War II. He was a 30 caliber machine gunner with the 8th division of the U. S. Army in Germany. After his military service, he started and finished school at North Greenville Junior College, Wofford College, and finished at Medical University of S. C. in Charleston in 1956. Dr. Williams served his internship at McLeod Infirmary in Florence. Dr. Williams returned to Georgetown and practiced General Medicine and maintained an active medical practice until he closed his practice on June 30, 2015 after 58 years. He enjoyed his association with Georgetown Memorial Hospital and the staff during that time for many years. All of his patients were his extended family, and he loved them dearly. Dr. Williams came to enjoy treating his people (the best in the world) medically and talking with them about their soul and their faith. Dr. Williams lived in Georgetown County all of his life and enjoyed fishing, hunting and water sports with his family. Most of all, he enjoyed working the hay farm in the Choppee area. Dr. Williams married his first wife, Mary Louis Wood Williams in 1956, and she died at an early age in 1988. In1998, he married Ryndie Mobley Rogers, who worked with him in the office for many faithful years. In addition to his parents and first wife, Dr. Williams was predeceased by: two brothers, Fritz E. Williams (Wanda) and Archie Buford Williams, Jr. Surviving are: his wife; three sons, Lloyd Benton Williams, Jr. (Carol), Dr. Daniel Alan Williams (Lari), and Christopher Lee Williams; a step-daughter, Julie P. Rogers; six grandchildren, Bengie (Lynn), Patrick, Daniel, Christian, and Hilary Williams, and Dr. Ashley Kerry (Brent); two great-grandchildren, Paige Amelia Williams and Thomas Wilder Carey; a sister, Kathleen W. Baxley (Preston); and three sons, not by birth, but through years of love and affection, Roy Hilburn II, Rodney Beach, and Scotty Poston.
