Georgetown:
Lorraine Hanson Ray, 81, died Thursday, January 15, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Ray was born in Minneapolis, Minn. on March 28, 1922, a daughter of the late Edwin Edgar Hanson and Tabitha Rebecca Book Hanson. She was a graduate of Minnehaha Academy in St. Paul, Minn. and attended business school. Mrs. Ray retired from Georgetown Memorial Hospital in 1982, after 28 years of service as Head Medical Record Librarian.
Mrs. Ray was a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church. She served her church as a Sunday School teacher, PYF leader, Happy Days teacher, and choir member. Mrs. Ray was also a member of Leila Ford Sunday School Class and the Pastoral visitation committee and a life member of the Women of the Church.
Mrs. Ray was a member the Willowbank Garden Club and The Georgetown Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader and Mother of Eagle Scout Michael Ray. Mrs. Ray had been a Hospice Volunteer since its conception. She was an organizer of the Junior Cotillion, brought the Fred Turbeville School of Dance to Georgetown, and was a member of the Quarter Dance Club. Mrs. Ray was an organizer of the Young Republicans for Goldwater and participated in the Camellia Shows in the 60's. She was also a member of the American Association of Medical Record Librarians.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mary Lou Ray Gilleland of Georgetown; two sons, Philip L. Ray, Jr. of Erlangen, Germany and Timothy P. Ray of Darlington; a sister, Mary Lou H. Moeller of Racine, Wis.; two brothers, Donald Hanson of Michigan and Theodore "Teddy" Hanson of Stockholm, Wis.; nine grandchildren; David Ellis Gilleland, Jr. of Georgetown, Tabitha Ray Gilleland of Columbia, Robert Edwin Ray of Minneapolis, Minn., Jessica Jean Ray of La Crosse, Wis., Lucy Eleanor Ray and Andrina Alice Ray, both of Bostwick, Ga., and Shelly Ray, Tammy Ray, and Ashley Ray, all of Darlington; three great-grandchildren, Loretta Lee Gilleland, Mary Caroline "Carrie" Gilleland, and David Ellis Gilleland, III, all of Georgetown.
Mrs. Ray was predeceased by: her husband, Philip Lancaster Ray; and a son, Michael E. Ray.
Funeral services will be two o'clock Monday afternoon, January 19, 2004 in Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. J. Ben Sloan. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from five until seven Sunday evening, January 18, 2004.
