Obituary

Louise Engelhardt Gunnell, 91, passed away peacefully in her home, on November 8, 2023, surrounded by her three loving daughters. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hammond (Jack) Gunnell.

Born in Washington, D.C., she is the daughter of Arthur and Connie McKnew. Louise was an avid gardener and animal lover. She loved to kayak the Black River and marshes of South Carolina, and was active in her local community of Pawleys Island. She worked for the Federal Government for many years and then went on to establish a successful real estate career.

At the age of 75, Louise received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with high honors from Coastal Carolina University.

Louise leaves behind daughters Katherine Grossman of Grove City, PA, Margaret (Peggy) Coughlan and her husband, Mark, of Waltham, MA, Theresa (Tess) Engelhardt of Schnecksville, PA; and a son, John J. Engelhardt and his wife, Mary Louise. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Zoe Arey, Leah Coughlan, Caitlin Kenney, John Arthur Dreisbach, and Frederick Engelhardt; five cherished great-grandchildren, Lillian Tzanev, Beatrice Tzanev, Evelyn McKenna, Liam Dreisbach, and Maisy Dreisbach. Brothers, Arthur and Richard McKnew, preceded her in death, and she is survived by sisters, Mary Baldwin, Joanne Lodowski, and Roxsena Charise.

The family would like to especially thank her dear friend and caregiver, Susan Chieffo. Special appreciation to Amedysis Hospice and their wonderful professional staff.

Services will be private.

The Georgetown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
