Obituary

Pawley's Island: Lucille P. Hornbaker passed away March 23, 2004 at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Lucille Hornbaker was born in Georgetown on September 11, 1913, the daughter of the late Samuel Martin Pope and Mary McDonald Pope. She grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School. After high school, she attended and graduated from Business School, traveled, worked in Kansas, then returned to S. C. to become an executive secretary at Walterboro Army Air Base. While at Walterboro, she met and married Capt. David Winford Hornbaker, a dentist serving with the U. S. Army Air Corps. In 1945, the couple moved to Worcester, Mass., where she became a full time homemaker until her family was raised, then assisted her husband in the dental practice. In 1982, the couple returned to the area settling at Salt Marsh Cove at Pawley's Island. They were charter members of and participated in activities at St. Paul's, Waccamaw, United Methodist Church. Her beloved husband of 49 years passed away February 28, 1993. Surviving are: her two sons, David McDonald Hornbaker of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Paul Robert Hornbaker of Boise, Idaho; a foster son, Kent S. Booraem of Essex Junction, Vt.; her sister, Elizabeth P. Ward of Spring Hill, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Alfred P. Seitter of Georgetown; two nephews, Henry P. Ward of Spring Hill, Fla. and Alfred Paul Seitter, Jr. of Youngsville, N. C.; a niece, Mary Beth Seitter Brawley of Charlotte, N. C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Preceding her to eternal rest was her sister, Margaret "Tom" Seitter, formerly of Georgetown. Funeral services will be 11:00 o'clock Saturday morning, May 22, 2004, at the graveside in Elmwood Cemetery in Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Paul's, Waccamaw, United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
