CHARLESTON:
Lucy Virginia Siau Barr, 89, widow of the late Capers G. Barr Jr., died at a local nursing home on Friday, Aug. 4, 2006.
Mrs. Barr was born in Georgetown, on Mar. 7, 1917, a daughter of Louis Harrell Siau and Ida Hanks Siau. She attended Georgetown public schools and Winthrop College.
Mrs. Barr's life was devoted to family and community. She was a member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Altar Guild and Alhambra Garden Club. She served as a volunteer Grey Lady at the U. S. Naval Hospital in Charleston.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Capers G. Barr III and Ellen N. Barr of Charleston, William S. Barr and Suzanne N. Barr of Mount Pleasant, Thomas H. Barr and Carol B. Barr of Litchfield Beach; a sister, Selena Siau Starbuck of Virginia Beach, Va.; eight grandchildren, Capers G. Barr IV and his wife, Jodi; Adam E. Barr and his wife, Kirsten; William Siau Barr Jr. and his wife, Lindsey; Brooke W. Barr; Katherine H. Barr, Lucy Virginia Barr and David A. Coe, Michael R. McLaurin, and Kathryn B. Flowers; five great-grandchildren, Capers G. Barr V, Benjamin Cannon Barr, Edward Penn Barr, Harriet Virginia Barr and Caton Robison Coe.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel on Monday, Aug. 7, 5 to 7 p.m.
Graveside burial services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Georgetown on Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m., followed by a reception at Duncan Memorial Methodist Church Family Center on Highmarket Street in Georgetown.
