Pawleys Island:
Miss Lucy Rasheed, 83, a beloved and lifetime member of the Georgetown/ Pawley's Island Community, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008.
Miss Rasheed was born in Georgetown on August 22, 1924, a daughter of the late Naseeb Rasheed and Mamie Rasheed. She was a graduate of Winyah High School and the University of South Carolina.
Miss Rasheed was a schoolteacher for 30 years. She began her career at Lamar Elementary and went on to teach at Pleasant Hill, Hemmingway and McDonald Schools. Her students have remembered her throughout the years for the loving guidance she selflessly provided in their lives. She cared for her parents, was an active member of the Pawley's Island Herb Society, the Book Club, the Quilting Club, and the Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the Pawley's Island Community Council. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a gracious host of many gourmet dinner parties!
Miss Rasheed was predeceased by: 2 brothers, Edward Rasheed and Fred Rasheed; and a sister, Laurice Rasheed.
Surviving are: 2 nephews, Larry Rasheed of Staunton, Va., and his wife, Michelle, and his 2 daughters Holly and Abby; Jim Rasheed of Anderson and his son Alan; 2 nieces, Anne Rasheed of Boone, N. C.; Suzanne Brown of Pawley's Island and her husband David, and their 2 children Jenny and Chris. She is also survived by numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be 9:30 o'clock Monday, January 21, 2008, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating will be The Reverend Tommy H. Tipton and Mike Black. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery Annex in Georgetown.
