Pawleys Island:
Luther Herman "Red" Dorn, 86, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Dorn was born in Crookston, Neb. on February 8, 1924, a son of the late Rev. Paul John Martin Dorn and Regina Florentina Aichele Dorn. He grew up in Nebraska and later moved south with his parents, who were ministers. Mr. Dorn served in the Army during World War II and the invasion of Normandy. He moved to Pawleys Island 35 years ago, where he was active in the Ocean Waves Square Dance Club. Mr. Dorn was a member of Holy Lamb Lutheran Church in Socastee.
Surviving are: his wife, Gertrude C. Dorn of Pawleys Island; a son, Robert "Bobby" Reid of Murrells Inlet; a daughter, Happy Land of Surfside Beach; a brother, Charles Dorn of Ottumwa, Iowa; a sister, Lenora Tuverson of Omaha, Neb.; and several grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at eleven o'clock Friday morning, September 17, 2010, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Stephen H. Wilkins and the Rev. David J. Panning. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery Annex.
