Mable Koth Tamsberg passed away on August 16, 2012 in Georgetown.
Mrs. Tamsberg was born in Beaufort County, South Carolina on October 31, 1918, the daughter of the late Charles Frederick Koth and Effie Bishop Koth. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Joseph Lane Tamsberg, Sr., and her daughter, Susan Tamsberg Wise.
Mrs. Tamsberg graduated as valedictorian from Beaufort High School in 1935 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude from the Coastal Carolina Campus of the University of South Carolina in 1978. She was a homemaker, a substitute teacher and a medical clerk.
Mrs. Tamsberg was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for more than sixty years and taught adult Sunday school for more than forty years. She also served as the Women's Missionary Union President and Circle Chairperson.
Mrs. Tamsberg was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She volunteered for the Georgetown Hospital Auxiliary in the 1960's where she served as a Pink Lady, director of the Candy Stripers, and later in the surgical waiting room. She was a Hospice volunteer for ten years, providing patient or bereavement care for numerous Georgetown families. Through her countless acts of kindness and deep devotion to her faith, she enriched the lives of her family, her church, and her community. Her unselfishness and the graciousness with which she accepted her declining health was a loving gift to all who knew her.
The family is deeply grateful for the wonderful care provided for Mrs. Tamsberg by the staff of Morningside of Georgetown and the Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mrs. Tamsberg is survived by: her son, Joseph Lane Tamsberg, Jr. and his wife, Anne Ford Tamsberg of Georgetown; daughter, Martha Catherine Tamsberg of Raleigh, North Carolina; son-in-law, Roy Thomas Wise of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren including, Dr. Kristin Rebecca Wise of Charleston; Mary Catherine Wise of Atlanta, Georgia; Joseph Ford Tamsberg of Georgetown; Christopher Lane Tamsberg and wife Carrie of Charleston; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be three o'clock Saturday afternoon, August 18, 2012, at First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Ted A. Sherrill. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery Annex.

The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home Friday evening, August 17, 2012, from six until eight.
