Margaret Bell Lewis

Margaret Bell Lewis, 79, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at her home in DeBordieu Colony, South Carolina. She was born on February 13, 1947, to the late Mary Jane Trew Bell and Harris Neill Bell.

Raised in High Point, North Carolina, Margaret built a life centered on faith, family, and serving others. She shared 57 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Rick, and together they built a life filled with love and lasting memories.

Spending time at Sunset Beach and later DeBordieu Colony was a setting for many of her family’s happiest memories. Above all else, Margaret cherished being “Marmi”, the beloved grandmother to her four granddaughters. She loved playing dress-up, reading books, shopping, and creating special memories with each of them.

Margaret attended Salem Academy, Sullins College, and Southern Methodist University, where she was a proud member of Chi Omega Sorority, and later earned her master’s degree from Rollins College.

Margaret generously gave her time and talents to numerous community and charitable organizations, including the Junior League, where she served as President, the High Point Preservation Commission, High Point Historical Society, the High Point Arts Council, and many other local organizations.

A devoted Christian, Margaret’s faith was the foundation of her life. At St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, she served on the Vestry, the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), and many other outreach ministries. She lived her faith through quiet service, compassion, and caring for others.

Margaret is survived by her beloved husband, Richard “Rick” LeRoy Lewis; her children, Richard Alan Lewis (Melissa) of Winston-Salem, NC; Mary Karen Lewis Davis of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and granddaughters, Mary Margaret Trew Lewis, Virginia Rufts Lewis, Lucy Reid Davis, and Emma Claire Davis; her sister, Neill Irene Bell Vanderwerff of Greensboro, NC; and her brother, Ted Trew Bell of Greenville, SC. Margaret will be greatly missed. She was a tremendous friend to all, a loving wife and mother, and a cherished grandmother.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the extraordinary care and compassion shown by the caregivers of Senior Care Solutions, especially Lori Anne, KK, Felisha, Ashley, Missy, and Joy; as well as April. Their kindness, friendship, and loving support allowed Margaret to continue to live her last years at home with the people she loved the most.

A memorial service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in High Point, North Carolina with Father Rob Travis officiating. A private inurnment will follow the service in the church columbarium, and the family will receive friends following the interment in the church Parrish Hall.
