Obituary

Pawleys Island: Marjorie Elder Graham, 87, widow of Thomas Hunter Graham, died Sunday, August 21, 2011, at the Lakes at Litchfield. Born on April 8, 1924 in Chickamauga, Ga., she was the daughter of John Glenn Elder and Dixie Eugenia Henderson Elder. She graduated from high school there, attended Randolph Macon Womens College and was a graduate from the University of Chattanooga. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority and taught at Radford College in Radford, Va. She appeared in summer theater plays in New York. Her husband was a textile executive and they lived in a number of places, Cheraw, S. C., Altavista, Va., and Greensboro, N. C., before retiring to Pawleys Island, where they were active members of Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church. They were active leaders in building the church. Mrs. Graham was a co-founder of the Scholarship Committee, taught Sunday School, and taught and coached children in acting for years at the Joy School. For her services, she received a Life Membership Award to the Women of the Church. Mrs. Graham served as Regent of the Winyah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Waccamaw Garden Club, the Georgetown Historical Society, and the Litchfield Country Club. Survivors include: her son, Thomas Hunter Graham, II and his wife Sarah; her grandson, Thomas Hunter Graham, III; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church on Friday morning, August 26, 2011, at eleven o'clock with the Rev. Frank Holsclaw. Interment will be in the family cemetery plot in Chickamauga, Ga. Saturday morning, September 3, 2011, at eleven o'clock. A reception will immediately follow the funeral service at the Church.
