Obituary

Pawleys Island: Marjorie Priscilla Davis Holmes of Pawley's Island died at Tidelands Waccamaw Hospital on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. She was 92. The burial service will be at 12:00 noon, Monday, August 6, in All Saints cemetery, 3560 Kings River Rd. at Pawley's Island. The Most Reverend M. Bruno will officiate. Surviving are: her daughter, Patsy Holmes of Pawley's Island and granddaughter, Stokes Holmes of Savannah, along with several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased: by her husband, Walter Garth in June of this year, their sons,Walter Garth Jr in 1978 and Michael Davis in 2003; and her brother E.L.; and their sisters, Blanche, Florry, Annie, Frances, and Jean. Marjorie was born in Buffalo Springs, Virginia, to Eugene Lee and Frances Susan Ladd Davis. She graduated from nearby Clarksville High School and attended business classes in South Boston, Virginia. She worked as a secretary at Buffalo Springs Hotel and lab assistant at Clemson College before devoting herself to a calling as fulltime wife, mother, and homemaker. Living most of her days in her husband's native South Carolina, and the last 42 years at Pawley's, Marjorie could play piano by ear; was meticulous at handcrafts; kept a clean, tidy, and orderly house; and always took care to prepare appetizing, delicious, and nutritious meals for her family table. Almost to the end she was as feisty as she was petite. All who knew her will miss her strength and her verve.
