Obituary

Myrtle Beach: Martha Gaynell Simmons, 67, died January 10, 2009 at her residence after a brief illness. Mrs. Simmons was born in Luxora, Arkansas on March 19, 1941, daughter of the late Ernest Vernon and Martha Williams Vernon White. She was a graduate of Luxora High School. She was retired from the Myrtle Beach Moose Lodge #1959. She moved to Myrtle Beach in 1981. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Glenns Bay Baptist Church. Surviving are: her mother, Martha Williams Vernon White of Memphis Tennessee, a son, Rev. Benjamin Simmons and his wife Renee of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Julie S. Baxley of Conway; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Oliver Simmons of Conway; a brother, Clyde Ferguson and wife Sherry of Lewisburg, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Emily Knight and her husband Walter "Doc" of Hillsbourgh, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Charley Baxley, Benjamin Simmons, Jacob Simmons, Shelley Simmons, Christen Simmons, Miranda Skipper, and Kaylee Simmons; an aunt, Meta V. Blakely of Georgetown; an uncle, Johnny L. Williams of Jackson, Tennessee; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Mrs. Simmons was predeceased by: her husband, William Lee Simmons Jr.; a son Dennis Jeffery Simmons; and two sisters, Charlotte Ann Richardson and Shirley Gene Hadley. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, January 12, 2009, at Glenns Bay Baptist Church in Horry County. Officiating will be Rev. Benjamin Simmons. Burial will be at Johnson Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon, Monday, January 12. Officiating at the burial will be the Rev. Steve Candle. The family will receive friends at Glenns Bay Baptist Church from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM Monday, January 12, 2009, immediately following will be the service.
