Mary Bennett Herbert Davis died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at her residence.
Wife of the late Thomas Pettigrew Davis, Editor and Publisher of The Georgetown Times and Associate Editor of The Marlboro Herald Advocate, Bennettsville, S.C., Mrs. Davis was a native of Blackstone, Virginia and the daughter of the late Rita Moore and Thomas Jesse Herbert.
Mrs. Davis was graduated from Blackstone High School and Hollins College, Hollins, Virginia. A former Probation Officer with the Juvenile Court in Richmond, Virginia, she was active for twenty years in the newspaper profession with her husband after their move from Virginia to Georgetown in 1955.
She was a member of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, a board member of Hospice of Georgetown County and The Swamp Fox Players, a member of Friends of Brookgreen Gardens, and a volunteer secretary for The Rice Museum.
Mrs. Davis is survived by a son, Thomas Scott Davis, and a daughter, Kathryn Pettigrew Davis.
Funeral services will be held at the Georgetown Presbyterian Church at two o'clock on Sunday, June 2, 2013. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. William H. Puckett, Jr. Burial will be private.
