Mary Bruorton Powell, 84, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at NHC National Healthcare of Garden City.
Mrs. Powell was born in Georgetown on March 17, 1924, a daughter of the late John Alford Bruorton and Sarah Lavinia Lowrimore Bruorton. She grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School and Winthrop College. Mrs. Powell taught at McDonald Elementary School in Georgetown for thirty years.
Mrs. Powell was an active member of All Saints Church where she served on the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Episcopal Church Women, Daughters of the King, and involved in the food ministry of the Church. Mrs. Powell was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, and friend. She was the widow of James Monroe Powell, Jr.
Surviving are: two sons, James Monroe Powell, III (Pamela) of Charlotte, N. C. and Philip Gordon Powell (Sara) of Cheraw; a daughter, Catherine P. Middleton (Lewis) of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Hyacinth Rosenau of Conway; a sister-in-law, Vivian Powell of Georgetown; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 3:00 o'clock Friday afternoon, November 28, 2008, at All Saints Church. Officiating will be the Rt. Rev. Charles H. Murphy, III. Sign a guest book at www.mayerfuneralhome.com. The family will receive friends following the service in The Acts Building of the Church...
