Matthew J. Brooks died on April 21, 2004 at his home in Garden City Beach. He was born July 28, 1920 to John E. and Alicia M. (O'Brien) Brooks in Mount Kisco, N. Y. Mr. Brooks was a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy and served aboard Merchant Marine vessels in the North Atlantic as an engineering officer in World War II. In 1990, he received the USSR 50th Year War Medal for Seafarers of the Allied Forces convoys to Murmansk, Russia.
Mr. Brooks resided in the Mount Kisco area for 65 years, working for the New York Telephone Company for 33 years, before retiring and moving to South Carolina.
On December 27, 1947, he married Henriette Dauchot in Belgium. She survives, living in White Plains, N. Y. He is also survived by daughters Michelle A. Brooks of Mount Kisco, N. Y. and Christiane A. Brooks of Carmel, N. Y. and grandson Matthew . He also leaves brothers John E. Brooks and James A. Brooks of Murrells Inlet, Arthur T. Brooks of Garden City Beach, and Robert F. Brooks of Trenton, N. J. He was predeceased by brothers William J. Brooks and Hugh P. "Bub" Brooks.
Private services will be held in South Carolina.
