Georgetown: Mattie Edge Drew, 81, died Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Drew was born at Clinton in Sampson Co., N. C. on March 28, 1923, a daughter of the late Earnest Brooke Edge and Mary Minnie Butler Edge. She grew up in N. C. and lived in Conway prior to moving to Georgetown. Mrs. Drew was an active member of First Baptist Church. She was a previous member of the Platt Sunday School Class. Mrs. Drew was a member and former teacher of the Ruth Sunday School Class. For a number of years, she taught a Bible study group at the Manor House of Georgetown and had, just recently, started a Sunday School Class at Morningside of Georgetown. Surviving are: two sons, Walter Brooks Drew of Pilot Mountain, N. C. and Michael D. Drew of Columbia; a brother, Charles S. Edge of Georgetown; four sisters, Nancy Ridilla, Lillie Vone Smith, and Mary Salapetek, all of Georgetown, and Betty Gray Convertino of Charleston; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Drew was predeceased by: her husband, Hope Drew; a daughter, Annette D. Davis; three brothers, William Edge, Festus Edge, and Junior Edge; and a sister, Maxine Wesselman. Funeral services will be ten o'clock Saturday morning, July 3, 2004, at First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill and the Rev. Hiram McElrath. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
