Port Royal:
Maude Burgess Day, 98, widow of J. P. Day, died Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Helena Place in Beaufort.
Mrs. Day was born in Kingstree in the Bethel Community of Williamsburg County on August 6, 1917, a daughter of Charles Leland Burgess and Estelle Wilson Burgess. She was an Honorary Life member of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Day was the oldest member of the church and a member of the Leila Ford Sunday School Class. She was very active in the Willowbank Garden Club and won many blue ribbons. Mrs. Day worked in her flower beds until she was 95 years old.
Surviving are: a daughter, Carolyn D. Douglas (Harold) of Beaufort; a grandson, Mark Day Douglas (Susanne) of Beaufort; and a great-grandson, Van Williamson Douglas.
Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon, October 28, 2015, at two o'clock in the Georgetown Presbyterian Church. There will be a reception prior to the service from one until one forty-five o'clock in the Church Fellowship Hall. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Stephen H. Wilkins and the Rev. Cathy Tamsberg. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens in Georgetown.
