Georgetown:
Meta Virginia Blakely, 85, died Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Miss Blakely was born in Andrews on April 22, 1927, a daughter of the late Samuel Benjamin Blakely and Henrietta Isokreit Blakely. She moved with her family to Georgetown in 1938 and graduated from Winyah High School. Miss Blakely worked as a secretary for forty-four years and retired from International Paper Company in 1988. She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.
Miss Blakely loved music, especially the popular songs of the "Big Band" era. She also enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
Miss Blakely was predeceased by: two brothers, Ben and Frank; two sisters, Emily Belle B. Simmons and Madge B. Willis; a special Niece, Beth Simmons, a great-nephew Denny Simmons; two brother-in-laws, Bill Simmons and Doyle Willis, and a sister-in-law, Frances Taylor Blakely.
Surviving are: two sisters, Lorraine B. Brandon of Pine Bluff, Ark. and Jeannette B. Hatzenbuhler of Jupiter, Fla.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be five o'clock Sunday afternoon, October 28, 2012, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford and the Rev. Benjy Simmons. A reception will immediately follow in Duncan Memorial United Methodist Family Life Center. Inurnment will be private.
