Obituary

Andrews: Michael Owen Barnes, 66, husband of Josie Strickland Barnes, died Saturday, March 14, 2020, at his residence. Mr. Barnes was born in Georgetown on January 18, 1954, a son of the late Owen Louis Barnes and Catherine Shirley Ray Barnes. Mr. Barnes grew up in Andrews and graduated Andrews High School. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Mr. Barnes loved helping people with whatever their needs might be; he was very much a people person. He had a great love for hunting, his hunting dogs and his pet donkey "Cookie" always made him smile. Mr. Barnes was well known for his 'Story Telling" and making everyone laugh especially his grandchildren He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was predeceased by: two brothers, Jimmy Barnes and Glenn "Boo" Barnes. Surviving are: his wife of Andrews; a step-son, Roger Devin Chestnut (Ashley); an adopted daughter, Jacqueline Chestnut, five brothers, Kevin L Barnes, Steve Barnes, Gregg Barnes and Jack Barnes (Jeanette) all of Andrews Stanley Barnes of Maryland; a sister, Janet Barnes Bone of Shelby, NC; a special nephew, Allen Barnes (Whitney Kellehan) of Andrews; three grandchildren, Roger Devin Chestnut, II (Samantha), Josey Ann Chestnut (Jameson Westbrook), and Ariel Chestnut (Mark Brandon); and five great-grandchildren, William, James and Linda Chestnut, Blakely and Michael James Westbrook; and three great-nephews, Christopher Barnes, Owen Barnes and Logan Barnes Funeral Services will be two o'clock Monday, March 16, 2020, at Bethel United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Lay person Diane Anderson and the Rev. Jo Anna Fallaw. Burial will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Churchyard. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, March 15, 2020, at the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from four until six o'clock.
